Located just a short drive from the historic city of Savannah, Tybee Island is a little doll of an island. My husband and I go to Tybee often. We love it’s laid back, easy going style. We can get there, throw on a t-shirt and shorts, slip on the flip flops and …done. No pretense, no stuffiness, just salt air and sunshine.
Oh, our little Tybee just went through a one, two glancing punch from mean old Hurricane Matthew. Everyone feared the worst for our little island. Don’t get me wrong, the clean up will take a while. There are downed trees and roof shingles missing. There was flooding. But, it could have been so much worse. Tybee made it!
Haven’t we all suffered our glancing blows? The hurricanes in our lives that surprise us and threaten to knock us down forever. But, how good it feels to make it through. To weather the storm. To see sunshine and blue skies on the other side.
So, maybe on this Monday, you can join me on Tybee’s pier. Even if its just in our day dream that we do it. As we join sweet Tybee in saying, “Whew! We made it.”
